I offer a few hunts a year in New Mexico for Merriam turkeys. I have access to several private tracts of land but we primarily hunt the Gila National Forest with millions of acres. Plenty of land to hunt with lots of turkeys. I have years and years of experience on this ground. The quality of hunting depends greatly on the weather though. Dry springs, snow, or high winds can make for tough hunting. But good conditions can make for quick and fairly easy hunts. Don't usually hear a ton of gobbles but have good success on the ones we do hear. The season runs from April 15th-May 10th. The best time to hunt is usually during the April dates but again depends on the weather. We will be hunting around 6700ft elevation. You can kill 2 toms and tags are over the counter. You will need to register an account with NM Game and Fish before purchasing a tag though. I can explain this in more detail once we line up a trade. This past season, we killed several birds that averaged around 10" beards, 1" spurs, and 21-23lbs.
Accommodations
There are several motels in Silvercity that you can stay at. I will provide transportation to and from hunts. I can pick you up in the morning with breakfast burritos, have a packed lunch and then we can do dinner in town at night after the hunt.
If you are looking to fly, then the best airports are El Peso, TX or Albuquerque, NM.
