I am a registered Alaskan Hunting Guide on Kodiak Island. I offer top quality custom tailored hunts for Kodiak Brown Bear, Mountain Goat, Sitka Blacktail, and Roosevelt Elk. All of which are listed for trade. Brown and Grizzly bears are classified as the same species even though there are notable differences between them. Kodiak Brown Bears are classified as a distinct subspecies from those on the mainland because they have been isolated from the other bears since the last ice age. Kodiak bears have almost an unlimited amount of Salmon to feed on. This not only makes these bears huge but gives Kodiak one of the highest concentration of Brown Bears in the World.
We conduct varied types of hunts in different areas. Every hunt is custom tailored to the hunters' needs and physical capabilities. It is important that you book well in advance openings are very limited. The access to these remote areas is by float plane, boat, or six wheeler side by side.
In some areas, we hunt primarily by boat, glassing for bears found on the beaches and hillsides. This is the least physical, but still one must be able to climb up steep hillsides to stalk bears. In some areas, we base out of cabins or comfortable tents with heaters, stoves, and cots, or we may use spike camps and backpack into areas to glass from spotting knobs for bears. I believe this is the most effective way to hunt these Kodiak bears. Being patient, sitting on high spotting knobs, looking over miles of beautiful bear country using our binoculars and spotting scope, we will glass the area hours on end until we find your bear. This method is much more successful than tramping around the area as you would scent the area and chase the bears out. The bear population is at an all-time high! These are the good ole days for hunting Kodiak Brown Bear.
