I own a 31 Open Contender powered with twin Yamaha 300 4-strokes, arguably the most reliable outboard ever made. It has a brand new Furuno radar, Furuno Navionics, Airmar transducer, Night Vision Camera, CMOR bathymetry, JL Audio sound system including 2 subs and 6 7.7 speakers with 2 amps running additional power. We can jam to clear crisp music while running 50 mph. She holds 280 gallons of fuel, giving us enough range to target any species with 80-100 miles of the coast. Time of year heavily dictates what species we will likely encounter, but were capable and have the gear to target everything from winter time wahoo using live bait or lures, to snapper/grouper and other bottom fish, to Mahi in May on ballyhoo, and King Mackerel on live bait in the summer. We have a total of 3 live wells in the boat giving us enough space to hold bait for an extended day. Wahoo fishing, snapper/grouper fishing, and Mahi fishing are some my favorite things to do throughout the year in our area. I also have a 18ft aluminum boat setup to fish our inshore estuaries for redfish and trout, if the weather does not allow us to fish offshore.
I live in Jacksonville, but we can easily trailer to Fernadina Inlet, St Augustine inlet or Ponce Inlet in Daytona, depending on where the fish are at. Most of the time however, we fish out of Mayport (Jacksonville) or St. Augustine. I can tailor the trip to whatever you want to do. If your wanting to target trophy's we can do that. If you want a "grocery haul" we can do that (one of my personal favorite things to do!). Our area is known for our excellent, world class winter time wahoo fishery. We have numbers and size. 100 pounders are common. Our area is also known for our world class snapper fishery. We have giant Muttons, Reds, and Mangrove snapper. We do have some decent grouper fishing as well, but it can be hit or miss.
For Peace of Mind, I carry an emergency inflatable life raft, I have a "ditch bag" on board complete with an EPIRB, and I also carry a PLB on board as well. I take safety EXTREMELY serious and I will have the ultimate final say on anything pertaining to weather, sea-state, etc.
For Legal purposes:
THIS IS NOT A CHARTER. I am not a licensed captain. I am a recreational fisherman that has 25 years of experience on the water in our area running and owning boats greater than 28' in length.
I will be covering all fuel, ice, bait, and tackle costs. I will also be providing all necessary gear and equipment.
For perspective, a hired charter would charge anywhere from $2,500 to $4,000 per day plus gratuity for a trip like this on an equivalent boat.
